soundtrack

I had a passion when I was in high school to find songs that matched my life.  I guess not much has changed.  Does it annoy anyone else when a song that you LOVE or has a catchy chorus doesn't relate to your life?

Some recent examples:

1. My friends (ChickFlickChic and All My Reasons) and I just talked about this over a dinner at Olive Garden.  All three of us are in happy relationships...but don't you think if this heartbreaking song came out during a heartbreaking time it would be even more legit?  Is that the right word choice?  Yes, I am going to go with legit.

2. Today on the radio I heard this song for the second time.  (Maybe it's been out forever, who knows!) I found myself awkwardly swaying to the music in the car and digging the beat.  It kind of makes me feel like I want to go out dancing to a swanky place like the Atlantic in Gainesville and sway around with all the indie people.  But you know what?  When I got home today and googled the lyrics (because I had NO idea what they were saying) it was by far the worst lyrics ever!  Morbid and totally, outrageously, and in no way related to my life.

3. I also hate when a song is about a girl... but you are obviously the girl in the relationship so you have to pretend your love/hubby thinks the song is about you.  You have to project those fuzzy happy tunes on to your husband and hope the song maybe reminds him of you- and then he actually has to say that to confirm?  Who wants to have to dedicate a love song to themselves?  I think this is one of the most romantic songs, ever.  It deserves to be on a home made love cd.  Would it be too self indulgent if I made a cd to myself and addressed it from my husband?

4. And then, finally, there are the songs that have nothing to do with your life but you dance along and enjoy them even though you can't relate to it directly. (Although, sometimes in those dolling up moments for a big (and rare) night out you really do feel like a dancing diva). Because really, who would want to be the girl in those lyrics in real life?

What's in a blog name anyway?

Early on on the year a friend of mine sent me link to quite a funny article.  Although some of the quotes and statements are a bit- brazen... I really enjoyed the overall article from Thoughtcatalog.com.  Want to know a secret?  My blog names comes from this article nestled right into the final thoughts of the author;
"The girl who reads has spun out the account of her life and it is bursting with meaning. She insists that her narratives are rich, her supporting cast colorful, and her typeface bold. You, the girl who reads, make me want to be everything that I am not. But I am weak and I will fail you, because you have dreamed, properly, of someone who is better than I am. You will not accept the life that I told of at the beginning of this piece. You will accept nothing less than passion, and perfection, and a life worthy of being storied."
I like to read, and I like articles about girls that like to read.

PS.  I already accomplished one of my goals for Fall and I have read not only three books, but 4 so far!

What books do you recommend I add to my must-read list?

He is pretty much the funniest person I have ever met :)

Hairy Mess

I grow my hair long and then I cut it off.  I decide to  grow my hair long again, and then I cut it off, again. This cycle seems to repeat itself every 3 years.  The moment the hair comes off I immediately wish for it's return.  The second it starts to become long I feel its untameable and I cut it off.

Want to know the sad truth?  I cannot style my hair.  At all.  For any occasion.  This my friends is what leads me on my wild goose chase.

I daydream about short hair:

And this is how my short hair actually looks (there I am all the way to the right wearing what I consider to be "styled" hair!)

I daydream about long hair:

And here, my friends, is what I consider one of my best long hair pics:

(yes, I went so far back to find a good hair pic it took me back to the days of braces!)

What I am in need of is a hair intervention.  I need a stylist team to tell me the right color, cut, and actually teach me how to style!  It seems so easy when the hairdressers give me an amazing blow out and curl.  But I'm telling you, my left hand is useless in blow-drying and I cannot see the back of my head!  I don't know which way to turn the flat iron.  I have useless products.  Nor have I perfected how to blow dry bangs in the 6 years that I have had the side swept look.  Most of the time I give up and pin them back, like so:

help me.

Hurry up, October!

I cannot wait for October!  This is for me, one of the s.l.o.w.e.s.t. times of the year- waiting for holiday season to begin (don't even ask me how I feel about August and January).

As the years circle on and on I find I have solidified my opinions, good or bad, of certain months of the year.  There is no convincing me otherwise.

Let's explore, shall we?

Oct 1- Dec 31- The absolute best time of year.  December has always been my favorite for the obvious reasons (Santa, Christmas movies, presents, and malls!) I am not sure when my love for December crept forward to include November and then crept even further to include October (As a born and raised Floridian I never quite understood "Fall").  But now I absolutely. love. it!  I love the rich foods, desserts, endless family and friend time, the different feel in the air of friendliness and the hustle and bustle of the holidays.  I am now one of those people that begins decorating mason jars and filling them with leaves, I make homemade "ghost" decor for Halloween, I visit a pumpkin patch every year.  Add some turkey and gravy to that list and I am the happiest person!

{This is the pumpkin I carved a few years ago-
 I think it perfectly illustrates how excited I get for Christmas!}
{Gobble Gobble}

{Do you see why I love pumpkin patches?}

December- It really deserves it's own shout-out- considering it is the happiest time of the year!  BUT, won't get to ahead of myself here and rant about my love for all things Christmas, that can wait. So for now...

Hurry up, October!

so long sweet summer...

Well, I have been inspired by ChickFlickChic (it's easy to do!).  I don't feel too bad about it since she did pose the question "what are your summer favorites?"

Favorite Movie

Crazy Stupid Love

Let me preface this by saying the only three movies I saw this summer were Bridesmaids, Crazy Stupid Love and Planet of the Apes. As a matter of fact, these are the only three movies I have seen in a theater in the past two years.  Having a baby can really limit the movie going experience.

Something about rarely getting out to see a movie is that it makes any movie you do actually get to see incredibly special.  Life-changing special, really.  Even Ceasar the Ape had me enthralled.

Crazy Stupid Love wins because it was happy, sad, hopelessly romantic and just had just enough raunchyness for the funny affect.  I loved it!

Ps.  I also saw 500 days of summer for the first time this summer on Netflix.  It is old, but I loooooved it!

Best Vacation:

South Beach, Miami

I feel a little personal guilt for not saying our amazing family vacation in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.  But Miami had some highlights that cannot be forgotten!

1.  I got to spend unlimited, uninterrupted time with my hubby.  We were celebrating our 2 year anniversary and hadn't been away together since the honeymoon.  He's handsome and was all mine in Miami :)
2. Staying at the ridiculously glitzy, star-studded and overpriced oceanfront Gansevoort Hotel.
3. Enjoying the best. meal. of my. entire. life. at STK Miami.  YUM.  Along with the incredible food, I discovered (for the first time) what is now my favorite drink of choice: jalapeno martini.  yum.
4. Living a Reality Show dream of mine and casually shopping the racks at DASH.
5. The people watching and fist pumping.
6. The four hour excursion through town in a death van that did not result in a free wave runner rental.  This will be remembered forever!

I had a blast!

Favorite Purchase (well, gift)

 I have a hard time purchasing things over $20 dollars (frugal.) But leave it to my husband to spoil me with a new SLR camera and tablet this summer!

 Favorite Thing I Did

ChickFlickChic is right on the money with this one.  What can be better than best friends reuniting for a wedding??

  Favorite Book

I've joined in on the Hunger Games. One book in and can't wait to read the next two!

Favorite Thing I Wore

Feathers in my hair is definitely the trendiest thing I've done in a long time!  Made for a fun Birthday!

Cutest Picture of Jamin From Summer (how is this not a category??)

Goodbye summer- I can't wait until I see you again next year!
