blogger mishap

well, in efforts to make my blog a prettier place, I have totally managed to mess it up! first i was just trying to make the pictures bigger and was becoming frustrated when they never seemed to fit right. then somehow the pictures took over everything! they are HUGE! Leaving no room for a sidebar, overshadowing any text, covering up backgrounds.

I thought I could alleviate this problem by using template designer. The biggest blogger mistake i have made thus far. i started clicking around and i cant make anything go back to the way it used to be. i have a terrible blue blog, with over sized pictures, and none of the the prettiness i wanted. help.

say a prayer for peace

Every couple of months since I first saw this on the CMT awards I watch this video of Trace Adkins and the West Point Glee Club. It never fails to make my cry and put things into perspective.

Pack it up

Don't you just hate packing? I do. It hasn't always been this way- I used to loooove it. I would make lists weeks in advance, buy special packing equipment (giant ziploc bags to roll on, anyone?) and live out of my suitcase for a couple weeks at home and then have to rewash and repack everything.

Now, such a burden. Simply torture. What to pack, how to make it all fit, and having to remember the necessities. I didn't have to worry about the toothbrush making it to my destination as a kid, it just magically did.

Now, I have to pack for myself, pack for Jamin, and make sure the husband just doesn't roll his clothes into a ball. I've been procrastinating for weeks and our plane takes off at 6:30 am tomorrow...I still don't see packing in my very near future. I am too busy trying to figure out how to travel on a plane with a toddler.

Just Keep Swimming

Well, today I had planned on posting a nice little recap on the adventures of Jamin & swimming lessons. Today was going to be the final day of a two week session at the Rec center. However, this morning's insane downpour and lightning had swim cancelled.

No pictures of my little Nemo swimming laps.

Actually, even without the rain, you wouldn't have found any pictures of my little Nemo gracefully swimming the length of the pool.

Because he didn't learn a thing.

Really, nothing.

He enjoyed splashing, clinging on to momma for dear life and he did excel at the skill of climbing out of the pool.

Still working on: floating, dunking his head, actual kicking motion, and not clawing mommy to death as he wails and flails.

Hooter

Meet Hooter.

This little woodland creature will soon be loved by my soon-to-be-nephew, Palmer. He will be perched in his nursery keeping watch through the night.

Although I know this Hooter will not be baby Palmer's favorite hooter, I sure hope he comes in as a strong #3.

PS. This is my FIRST crochet animal ever (ever!). I am proud.

Dinner Redemption

To make up for the tragedy of yesterday's dinner attempt, I had to redeem myself by making one of the husband's favorite dishes. I chronicled dinner tonight to prove I can cook up yummy food, and not just rubber scallops swimming in champagne.

From the dependable Better Homes & Gardens

Pineapple Stir Fry Chicken

Needed:
chicken, in strips
pineapple chunks
sugar snap peas
1 bottle stir fry sauce
1/2 red onion sliced
veg oil
rice- I prefer whole wheat
wok

1. saute onions for 2 min on med-high heat in wok
2. add sugar snap peas, pineapple, (optional additions: thin zucchini slices, or I like to add a chopped hot red pepper for heat) cook for 3 min
3. remove veggies
4, more oil in wok, stir-fry chicken, add stir fry sauce to taste
5. when chicken is cooked through, add back veggie/pineapple mixture
6. heat through (add flour to dish and stir in to thicken sauce if necessary)
7. serve over rice!

Yum.

Laundry

Maybe laundry wouldn't be quite as miserable if I had a little laundry paradise to retreat to, as seen here,

or here,

Happy housekeeping everyone!

Caylee's Law

I heard on the news this morning through the endless Casey Anthony coverage that over 250,000 people are petitioning for a new law, which would be called "Caylee's Law," to require parents to report a missing or dead child in a timely manner. How is this not a law already!? I didn't realize that two year old's across the country had no rights to be reported missing or dead by their parents, by immediate family, by anyone??

I don't even understand why such a thing even needs to be regulated? What happened to decency, common sense, honesty? Apparently everything, even moral judgement, needs to be written down in print.

See more here about the petition for Caylee's Law.
PS. By the time I posted the link it looks as if the number is 350,000+ now!

a happy heart

Some things that I am thankful for, and things that I love, in no particular order...

1. My amazing job that allows me so many hours off during the day and provides me with so many vacations to stay home with Jamin.

2. Old fashioned traditions- asking for a hand in marriage, opening a car door, a hand written note.

3. Best friends from childhood that remain best friends in adulthood.

4. My pillow-top mattress, with my ratty old blanket, next to my handsome hubby- possibly the most comfortable place on Earth.

5. A family that I love and a family that loves me unconditionally.

6. Blogs, books, pictures, quotes that inspire me to find more beauty and simplicity in life.

7. Bookcases & reading a favorite book. Keeping a collection of stories you love nearby.

9. Summertime

10. Floral print clothing- anything- dresses, scarves, bathing suits, shoes...actually, it doesn't even have to be clothes, pretty much all things floral!

Dinner Woes

Ever have one of those inspired days where the inner chef in you wants to really jazz things up in the kitchen?

Well, I do. And that is my story today.

I craved "down home comfort" meets "sophisticated palette". Fettuccine Alfredo came to mind, better yet, blush cheesy fettuccine Alfredo! Add a lil' class by ordering some fresh scallops and ripened tomatoes. Make sure I have the fresh mozzarella on hand and into the kitchen I go.

First step- delicious saute of scallops...a little olive oil, a little broth, some parsley, fresh ground sea salt...and champagne? Oops, meant to go for some white wine, but popped a bottle of bubbly instead. What can I say, I am not a wine connaisseur.

Next, cook up the whole wheat fettuccine to the perfect al dente, make my irresistible tomato Alfredo sauce and toss with fresh mozzarella.

Bon Appetit! Oh, wait.

Last step, keep on low over the stove and wait for the hubby to come home. And wait..and wait. In all fairness, I knew he would be late but this is a real tragedy when it comes to cooking up tricky scallops...

The result, a cheesy goopy pile of hard pasta with rubberized scallops.

Next time I will let my inner chef take a trip down the aisle to Kraft Mac & Cheese.

Happy Dinner time everyone!

"Accept nothing less than passion and a life worthy of being storied..."

I am going to be a woman of many trades. Now with sprawling summer days before me and time slowing down I begin to wonder what will I do to fill the time. I'm a wife, mom, worker and creative genius waiting to be born. The trouble is I want to be so many things: blogger, baker, photographer, nature explorer, marathon runner, a home making green goddess, fashionista, interior decorator and crafter. It's hard to know which path to choose. So, for now, I have chosen all of them. I'm going to enjoy this summer to the fullest with life's simple pleasures.

I don't know which direction I will enjoy the most or stick with. But for now I plan to enjoy the time summer has to offer me. Yesterday I cooked of batches of homemade toddler food with vegetables I've never purchased before, this morning I redecorated the guest room at no cost, I am recommitting myself to blogging but requiring of myself to be more honest and thoughtful in my posting, I will be signing up for another half marathon for the Spring and I am in the midst of rekindling a hobby I abandoned when I was 7, crocheting.

I've decided to use this summer to work on savoring life. I plan to keep the tv to a minimum, replace the blackhole of facebook with more engaging activities and rediscover this town through the eyes of my son.
