Make Up Make Over!

This Christmas I was so excited to get a couple of gift cards to Sephora!

I am so not a make up person.  It's not that I don't want to be but it's just a completely foreign concept to me.  I'm not sure of the right brushes or tools, I have no sense of what colors match my skin tone and to be honest I'm not even sure where to begin.

Well, what happens at Sephora if you have no idea what you want?!  Free make over and free tutorials!

Here are the results:

Don't worry, I know I look slightly awkward here.  But the eyes had to be closed to see the effect of the eyeshadow- which was what I was most excited about!  My tutorial was how to do a "light smokey eye." Along with that we matched some blush and lip color!

Here's the loot I left Sephora with:
Make Up For Ever, "aqua lip" in Nude Beige 1C
This eye shadow palette comes with 12 great colors, a shadow brush, and "eyeshadow potion" which is the base coat to keep eyeshadow on your eyes and prevent creasing!

Stila, illuminating liquid foundation

Now I just need to figure out how to replicate the eyes and look for New Year's Eve!

The sweetest moment of Christmas...

The pictures don't do the story justice! My grandma, Jamin's Grandmama (as she has named herself), was a professional seamstress throughout her life.  Of course along with alterations she was very skilled in crochet, knitting, embroidery, etc.  She has had a couple of strokes and has a pretty bad case of arthritis...but she still wanted to make Jamin something personal for Christmas so she hand made this blankie for him.  Something that would used to have taken her a couple of days at most took her months to complete.   It was made with dedicated time and so much love it brings tears to my eyes.  Look at that pic of Jamin checking out the blanket and giving grandmama a big "thank you" kiss!  The sweetest moment of Christmas <3

Then & Now

Thanksgiving 2011

Then & Now

a month and a half?

It's been a month and a half since my last post!  And now its almost Christmas time! Terrible! And to think, posting twice a week was one of my Fall goals.

The scary thing about my Fall goals is that I have only one more week until I am off from work for Christmas break.  Which is when my official winter begins.  I'm almost afraid to look at the post for fear of seeing all my unaccomplished goals staring right back at me!

Well, let's give it a go!

1. continue to blog at least 2 times a week Fail!
2. read three books (shouldn't be hard since I'm already 1 book deep into the Hunger Games trilogy- obsessed!) Success!
3. Yoga once a week. I am an old brittle woman who has thrown out her back one too many times for the age of 26. I need more stretching in my life. MAJOR fail.  A girl can dream..
4. Use food processor at least twice and mixer at least once (can we say Christmas cookies?) Success!  I used the food processor twice to make a creepy Halloween dessert and last week I whipped up some pesto.  I love Pesto.  Bought the ingredients tonight to make some home made Christmas treats this week!
5. Make butternut squash soup from scratch. Fail.  BUT, it hasn't been cold yet! I've worn a jacket once this year, and by noon I was roasting.  I think this allowed to move to "winter goals" without guilt or shame!
6. Try to make a new kind of meat for a main dish (I only use chicken, sausage, pot roast, and ground beef.) I want to try my hand at a pulled pork, or a brisket! or maybe a Thanksgiving turkey!)  Well, I can't even pretend I tried this.
7. Go to a pick-your-own farm and pick-my-own  Not the right season- silly me!
8. clean/organize my dresser drawers Success! And they are still bursting at the seams with old t-shirts
9. continue learning to use my SLR camera! Success!  I've been learning the past few weeks how to take better pictures of Christmas lights.  I was getting into the season and learning at once- two birds, one stone.
10. Bring lunch to work everyday and drink at least one full water bottle (this is so hard for me to do!) I brought lunch everyday! I am so proud. I drank nothing.
11.Begin and finish new crochet project  I still hope to do something before Christmas.  Ive got 16 days!
12. keep up with Oprah's Live your Best Life show- I watched one episode.  It is designed for middle age women with lots of guilt and trauma.  Not for me.

and here are some MUST-DO's that I neglected from my summer goals list:
1. Make Jamin's 1st year scrapbook- Oh my gosh, I still haven't done this.  I really need to. Very stressful!
2. Visit the Sponge Docks (I'd love to go during the Greek festival, but I think it's in January- maybe this will wait) Adding this as something to do in January!

happy (almost) birthday!

This past weekend I took the husband out with me on a big shopping trip.  I bought things without looking at the price tags.  I spent half the day browsing the outlets.  I ended the trip by eating an entire Hershey's chocolate bar.  It was the perfect day.  Except I didn't buy a single thing for myself (besides that chocolate..)

My husband was the lucky winner of the big shopping spree! It's (almost) his birthday and since we've spent most our our past years together with me giving pretty crummy not the best gifts (blame it on the college bank account...) I decided this would be the year he gets spoiled. Don't be fooled- buying clothes and new shoes is RIGHT up Jud's alley.  He is a closet pretty boy.

Here's a sneak peak into his closet:
Jud looks good in purple.  Now to find a silver tie!
Got these slim fitters in 4 colors.  That's right.

This one too.  We went a little sweater crazy.
Got some casual slim fitting pants too.

He got some boxers, socks, AND new dress shoes....and these...

Quite possibly his favorite purchase.  Shoe Trees.

Baby News!

The word is out! Jud & I are expecting baby number 2 on April 18!

Oh, hello!

Growin'

I am definitely feeling bigger this time around!  Although the scale isn't showing any increases yet I am definitely feeling as if I am in that "Is she pregnant? Is she bloated?" stage already!

Needless to say- Jud and I are thrilled and surprised about this little baby growing!  It will be lovely to have kids close in age!  I haven't quite wrapped my mind around two babies in diapers yet- but hey, life happens and I will survive the diapers for all the good that comes with a sweet new cuddly baby to love :)

What do you think, boy or girl this time around?

Happy October!

Happy October!  So glad it's finally my favorite time of year!

It's just past noon and today I have already celebrated by picking out Jamin's Christmas presents: This and this!  Getting blissfully excited about his Halloween costume.  And of course, baking some cookies!  This weeks agenda involves decorating some mason jars and buying some mini pumpkins.

Welcome Fall and holiday season!  I love you.

soundtrack

I had a passion when I was in high school to find songs that matched my life.  I guess not much has changed.  Does it annoy anyone else when a song that you LOVE or has a catchy chorus doesn't relate to your life?

Some recent examples:

1. My friends (ChickFlickChic and All My Reasons) and I just talked about this over a dinner at Olive Garden.  All three of us are in happy relationships...but don't you think if this heartbreaking song came out during a heartbreaking time it would be even more legit?  Is that the right word choice?  Yes, I am going to go with legit.

2. Today on the radio I heard this song for the second time.  (Maybe it's been out forever, who knows!) I found myself awkwardly swaying to the music in the car and digging the beat.  It kind of makes me feel like I want to go out dancing to a swanky place like the Atlantic in Gainesville and sway around with all the indie people.  But you know what?  When I got home today and googled the lyrics (because I had NO idea what they were saying) it was by far the worst lyrics ever!  Morbid and totally, outrageously, and in no way related to my life.

3. I also hate when a song is about a girl... but you are obviously the girl in the relationship so you have to pretend your love/hubby thinks the song is about you.  You have to project those fuzzy happy tunes on to your husband and hope the song maybe reminds him of you- and then he actually has to say that to confirm?  Who wants to have to dedicate a love song to themselves?  I think this is one of the most romantic songs, ever.  It deserves to be on a home made love cd.  Would it be too self indulgent if I made a cd to myself and addressed it from my husband?

4. And then, finally, there are the songs that have nothing to do with your life but you dance along and enjoy them even though you can't relate to it directly. (Although, sometimes in those dolling up moments for a big (and rare) night out you really do feel like a dancing diva). Because really, who would want to be the girl in those lyrics in real life?

What's in a blog name anyway?

Early on on the year a friend of mine sent me link to quite a funny article.  Although some of the quotes and statements are a bit- brazen... I really enjoyed the overall article from Thoughtcatalog.com.  Want to know a secret?  My blog names comes from this article nestled right into the final thoughts of the author;
"The girl who reads has spun out the account of her life and it is bursting with meaning. She insists that her narratives are rich, her supporting cast colorful, and her typeface bold. You, the girl who reads, make me want to be everything that I am not. But I am weak and I will fail you, because you have dreamed, properly, of someone who is better than I am. You will not accept the life that I told of at the beginning of this piece. You will accept nothing less than passion, and perfection, and a life worthy of being storied."
I like to read, and I like articles about girls that like to read.

PS.  I already accomplished one of my goals for Fall and I have read not only three books, but 4 so far!

What books do you recommend I add to my must-read list?
